The Waterfront Case Study
RSM Design worked closely with CenterCal Properties to developed a brand strategy for The Waterfront that honors Redondo Beach’s rich history and family friendly beach culture, while positioning the property to be one of the most desirable and authentic waterfront experiences in Southern California. The History
In 1889 the very first wharf was built where the pier now stands. From the early days of the Pacific Salt Works in the late 1800s to the grand opening of Tony’s on the Pier in 1952 and beyond, generations of Redondo residents and businesses built an extraordinary beach-side legacy defined by vibrant culture and the unbreakable bond of community. The vision for the Waterfront, our proposed revitalization of the Redondo pier area, has always been driven by one thing – reawakening this remarkable legacy and celebrating Redondo’s heritage.
The Vision
There was a time in history when the Redondo Beach pier was the toast of the South Bay area – a true gem along the Southern California coast. From the early days of the Pacific Salt Works in the late 1800s to the grand opening of Tony’s on the Pier in 1952 and beyond, generations of Redondo residents and businesses built an extraordinary beach-side legacy defined by vibrant culture and the unbreakable bond of community.

Village Character
With a completely new take on a work, live, play, stay and shop environment, this dynamic destination offers a unique stage for retailers, restaurateurs, and brands seeking to present themselves and connect with consumers in an exciting and modern showcase.
Some places are inspired by their location, rich history, diverse people or unique personality. The Waterfront at Redondo Beach has all of the above. This special location will becoming a destination, a mecca for specialty shopping, a marketplace featuring artisan goods and fresh seafood, a temporary home to boutique hotel goers, a waterfront commercial space for influential businesses, and a magnet for local families.
