Starfield Hanam, a new experiential retail destination with cultural, leisure, and entertainment offerings, is a multi-level lifestyle shopping center and amongst the largest in all of South Korea. The center is located in Hanam, an idyllic location just outside the country's capital, known for its open green space and sweeping mountainous backdrop. Measuring 4.9 million square feet, and serving nearly 26 million people in the greater Seoul area, its proximity to popular tourist hot-spots cements its label as a multi-cultural destination.

Starfield, a retail project in Hanam, South Korea. Exterior Architectural Facade Project Identity Signage

RSM Design was invited to the join the client team to develop a comprehensive and multi-cultural signage and wayfinding design program for the exterior, interior, and parking garages. Mixing scale, texture, pattern, and contrasting typographic forms, RSM Design created a user-friendly system of signage. Inspiration was drawn from the stars in the sky, the surrounding mountainous backdrop, the internationally-recognized Starfield brand story, as well as the stunning interior and exterior architecture, lighting, and landscape. The idea was to create a lifestyle shopping experience utilizing environmental graphic design; RSM Design’s signage solution has since helped shape Starfield Hanam into a unique South Korean destination, showing a steady growth in sales with over 800 brands, a hypermarket, and a wealth of entertainment facilities.
