Brewery Blocks

RSM was challenged to create a unified and cohesive graphics and identity standards manual for an historic neighborhood in urban Portland, Brewery Blocks at Pearl District. We worked directly with numerous neighborhood associations so that all parties were engaged in the process. To create this manual, research and history of the area was studied so that as new development occurred it not only respected the historical context but also was progressive enough to reflect the new growth and vibrancy of this unique area. Creating guidelines such as this offer a unique insight into the process of developing standards that other designers, artists, and developers can work within- knowing when to be referential, when to be deferential, when to stand out, and when to break the rules.
